Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is a radiation therapy that uses the nuclear reaction between thermal neutrons and boron (Boron-10), to kill cancer cells with the alpha particles and lithium nuclei produced.
When a drug containing boron is administered to the body and irradiated with neutrons, cancer cells are destroyed by the energy released from the boron. The area of effect is localized, and cancer cells can be destroyed while minimizing damage to normal cells. Conventional radiotherapy requires multiple irradiations, but BNCT is expected to be highly effective even with a single irradiation.

Nanotechnology

To further enhance the therapeutic effect of this BNCT, we have developed a new product called RN-501, a highly hydrophilic boron-containing inorganic nanoparticles.
The product is designed to deliver to cancer cells in a concentrated manner, which not only reduces side effects, but also makes it applicable to carcinomas that have been difficult to treat. In addition, the product's high accumulation and retention properties enable treatment at lower doses and for shorter periods of time than conventional formulations.
